Winter Summer
Bohinj valley is an ideal place for active holidays as well as for relaxation. One can easily spend two weeks in Bohinj and try something new every day. There is a wide variety of activities to be tried here in the summer, including hiking (from easy to difficult), trekking, mountaineering, mountain biking, canyoning and dry canyoning, paragliding, free and big wall climbing, tennis, horse riding, fishing and others.
The highest point in Slovenia is Triglav (Three Heads) at 2864m. Triglav is usually inaccessible to hikers from late October to early June. August and particularly September and October are the best times to make the climb. There are about 20 different ways to reach the top of Triglav, the main approaches being to the south from Bohinj and Pokljuka offering varying degrees of difficulty. A less strenuous circular walk around Lake Bohinj (12 km) should take 3-4 hours.
All activities are usually combined with sightseeing of historic monuments, natural beauties and tasting of local cuisine. However, if you prefer resting and relaxing during your holidays, Bohinj is still ideal. Bohinj Lake is best seen by a tourist boat which runs frequently in the summer, while the Alps can be observed from viewpoints such as Vogel, which you can reach with a cable car. There is also an Aqua park (popular with children).
There is fantastic fishing along the length of the River Sava Bohinjka or on the nearby River Radovna. Lake fed, the Sava Bohinjka is a very clear river in most spectacular surroundings, mountains in the distance and unspoilt meadows with many wild flowers. Giant brook trout, grayling, rainbow and brown trout feed under the tree-lined banks. Free rising and a good hatch of insects make a dry fly fisherman's paradise.
