Winter   Summer

In winter Bohinj offers great skiing. Vogel has 35 km of slopes with the longest run is 8 km. Typically the ski season at Vogel lasts from mid-December to early-May. There is one cable car at Vogel, 4 chair lifts and 4 drag lifts. Vogel offers spectacular views of Triglav and Lake Bohinj. There are also three ski schools and equipment can be easily hired.

Vogel is best described as a resort refreshingly quieter than those of France or Austria, being ideal for families who want to experience a relaxing ski holiday without the razzmatazz of discos or noisy watering-holes. Nearby Kobla has 23 km of slopes and the longest run is 6 km. Kobla has 3 chair lifts and 3 drag lifts and is popular with the Slovenes.

The mountain scenery of the Julian Alps is spectacular and snow conditions are often the best in the country as moisture from the Adriatic hits these mountains first as it travels inland.

Bohinj offers far more than just its ski slopes, with opportunities for waterfall ice-climbing and ice-skating on natural and artificial ice. There is also a gym, saunas, parasailing, paragliding and indoor swimming. Lake Bohinj is surrounded by a plexus of hiking trails, affording scenic walks through a magical winter landscape.

If you have never been to the Slovenian Alps and you're a keen ski mountaineer in search of somewhere new and exciting, then the extreme eastern Alps could be just the thing you're looking for. Mt. Triglav, the symbol of Slovenia, is quite rightly the main focus of attention, and this area has become much more popular since the Triglavski Dom refuge was opened on the panoramic col close to the summit.

The most interesting ski mountaineering itineraries can be undertaken here in the Spring, when the long steep gullies are perfectly covered in snow. The natural environment is extraordinary and, despite the relatively low altitude, retains a 'wild' feel.
